Good Samaritan Becomes Victim!

October 27, 2010

La Habra Heights, CA - A suspected male drunk driver described by an eyewitness as wearing gang attire crashed his Ford sedan into a Edison power pole near Fullerton and East Road directly across from Powder Canyon.  Three good Samaritans stopped to render aid and call 911.  Unfortunately, due to poor cell phone coverage in the hilly area it took sheriff and fire personal 15 minutes to respond according to one eyewitness.  In the meantime the good Samaritans became fearful of the accident victim’s erratic behavior and for good reason.  As they stood away from the victim fearing he may have a weapon, the suspect jumped into one of the good Samaritans vehicle's, a pickup truck and attempted to flee.  The suspect only traveled 30 feet before abandoning the vehicle against the hillside after he failed to find the correct starting key for the vehicle at which time the suspect exited the vehicle into the arms of an oncoming sheriff deputy.  The suspected drunk driver stated to witnesses that he was cut off or hit by another car but no other vehicles were located.  A witness observed the suspect placing a brown bag such as is used at liquor stores, in the Samaritans pickup prior to his attempt to flee the scene.  Edison crews responded and reportedly some loss of power occurred but the report could not be confirmed.  The victim/suspect was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
